Record-Breaking $28 Million Home for Sale in Duchess County

Mindy Grossman, former President and CEO of Polo Jeans, has listed her 13,000-square-foot Hudson Valley home for $28 million. If sold, the Grossman’s property would be the most expensive home sale in Duchess County. According to the Wall Street Journal, the most expensive real estate sale to date in Duchess County was a 290-acre estate that sold for $18.5 million in 2022.

Located at 309 Woodstock Rd, Millbrook, New York, the Grossman’s estate is significantly smaller, spanning over 60 acres. However, the estate comes with a myriad of luxuries, including a vineyard, a winery, a guesthouse with a gym and three-car garage, and other amenities such as a pool, rose garden, outdoor fireplace and pizza oven, outdoor kitchen with a full bar, six ponds and a small golf course.

The Tartan House

As Sarah Paynter wrote in the Wall Street Journal, Mindy Grossman and her husband, Neil, put an all-plaid addition on their house in 2017 as an homage to Mindy’s time at Ralph Lauren. They lovingly nicknamed it the ‘Tartan House,’ as Mindy loves Tartan.

The only area of the ‘Tartan’ that does not partake in the plaid theme is the movie theater “because it would have been too distracting,” as Mindy Grossman was quoted in the article. However, the billiards room, the bar, and two guest rooms are all fully decked out in plaid.

The Best of Both Worlds

The Tartan House was the most recent addition to the Grossman’s luxury home in Duchess County. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Grossmans added the kitchen, morning room, butler’s pantry, and the west wing, which includes a sunroom, living room, and dining room. The Grossmans added this addition around 2007; however, the original home was built in the 1700s.

This Hudson Valley home gives you the best of both worlds, with the original pine floors dating back to the 1700s and the modern updates of the kitchen, west wing, and the Tartan House. To learn more about this Dutchess County gem, check out the Zillow listing.
